Who Can Participate?
Individuals with an intellectual disability who desire to be an athlete with Special Olympics Nebraska can train as early as 6 years old but are not able to compete at the state level until the age of 8 with no maximum age limitation for participation.
To be eligible to participate, potential participants must be identified by an agency or professional as having an intellectual disability or have closely related intellectual disabilities such as functional limitations, both in general learning and adaptive skills such as recreation, work, independent living, self-direction or self-care.
Children ages 3-7 can participate in the Young Athletes Program, an innovative sports play program.
Individuals without disabilities can become a Unified Partner.
NOTE: People with functional limitations based solely on a physical, behavioral, emotional, specific learning disability or sensory disability are NOT eligible to participate.
